Okay as none of you know I did my leaving cert last year and took the year off before college to work on an art portfolio since i never did Art in school.(It was only available after school) I had no idea what to put in a portfolio so i went to an animation portfolio preparation class in IADT and that helped me a little bit on storyboards and the like and the critique was helpful! Also i could eye out the competition i was up against!(hi kate) I worked long and hard on the portfolio covering all aspects (life drawing, 3D models, flash animations, hand drawn animations, personal art etc) and handed in the portfolio with fingers crossed! I waited until June or so till the portfolio results came out and lucky me i got 600 points! BD now with my leaving cert points of 440 and 600 i had 1040 altogether so i was told by many that this was guaranteed that i get into animation in the school! So with that notion i applied for grants and found accommodation near IADT with friends and thought no more! Bear in mind i had no second choice on the CAO, animation in IADT was my only choice because i wanted to go nowhere else! Then the other day the CAO offers came out and i was coming back from the Flatlake festival in Monaghan driving 2 or so hours to dublin so i had to wait till i got home to longford (another 2 hours from dub) to see if i got in! My sister dropped me off in heuston and i bought the independant to read some special CAO supplement in it! I rang my mum to see if she was at home and to see if she got any post! She said a CAO thing came but she didn't understand it so i took no notice and said bye and went out to get the luas to connolly. When i was waiting for the luas i got a call from my mum saying the letter said if your course code has an asterix beside it you have not been offered a place. And the animation code is DL041 and on the letter it was written like DL041* so she said i didnt get the place! I was so shocked i just hung up straight away and put my fist right through someones parked car window. (whoever that was im really sorry!) Meanwhile my dad and sister were trying to ring me probably to say sorry i didnt get in but i didn't want to talk to anyone at that point so i went to connolly to try and get the next train to longford! it was 11a.m when i got to the train station and the next train wasnt till 1pm so i headed back into city centre. I stopped by an internet cafe and logged into the CAO so see if there was a mistake with the letter.no offers on the site. I sat outside easons for like an hour staring at the traffic and then my mam rang me nagging about how i didnt get in with 1040 points, i said i don't know, ring the CAO or IADT so she said she would. I wandered around city centre and ran into friends of mine skating temple bar so i joined them for a while and decided id get the 7pm train home. My mam rang again and said she was talking to IADT and they said they dont know how i didnt get in with 1040 and they said there was a mix-up with the CAO admissions that will be sorted out and that she'd ring my mam tomoro to let her know.This cheered me up a bit and i hung around stephens green with friends and got the 7 train home. I got home at 9 and just went straight to bed and watched tv! my mam woke me up the next morning saying she was talking to the head of admissions in IADT (eoin) and he said it'll be sorted out and bottom line im entitled to a place!
So after all that
I'M GOING TO IADT! *le gasp*
no one will read this but sure! looks like ill be a fully qualified animator by age22! And the place im gunna be living in is amazing and right beside Dundrum Shopping centre and im living with my 3 best friends so im delighted! the end, bye bye!
